The blood and tissue of a baby’s umbilical cord are a source of stem cells that can only be collected at birth. These cells, collected during childbirth, have not yet aged so are the youngest that can be preserved.
The umbilical cord contains two different types of cells: blood stem cells (hematopoietic cells) and tissue stem cells (mesenchymal cells). Obtaining these cells poses no risk to either the mother or baby.
Today, stem cells are used to treat more than 85 different diseases. There are also treatments, currently in the clinical trial phase, for many more diseases that are advancing daily.
The process of engaging the umbilical cord stem cell conservation service is quick and easy. The family requests a visit or information meeting, after which the paperwork is signed and the collection kit (CellabKit) is sent to the family.
On the day of the baby’s delivery, you take the CellabKit with you to the hospital where, after the birth, the gynecologist will collect the stem cells from the cord, and place them into the collection kit (CellabKit). Adhering to stingent safety protocols, we then transport the temperature controlled samples to our laboratory to guarantee the optimal time and conditions before processing.
We then process the stem cells and preserve them for 30 years in our private laboratory in Andorra. The family will always have easy access to the stem cells whenever needed for therapy or treatment.
Since 2014, Cellab has conserved umbilical cord stem cells for the many families who trust us. This is how they rate us:
Adults are not as lucky as the little ones. Our umbilical cord stem cells weren’t preserved when we were born, we do however have the ability to preserve our adult cells.
Our cells age with us, but the fact that we can preserve them at any moment and stop their biological age advancing further, provides us with the opportunity to ‘freeze time’ and retain your younger healthy cells in case we need them for some treatment or therapy later in life.
The adipose tissue or fat we have is one of the richest sources of mesenchymal cells in our body. Obtaining them is a quick and easy process for the patient involving a small liposuction from the area where most fat is observed (usually the abdominal area).
Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) have the ability to differentiate into multiple different specialised cell type. They have the ability to regenerate damaged tissue with an anti-inflammatory response.
Cellab comprises a highly specialized team of professionals who ensure the best treatment for your cellular material. By trusting us you are in the hands of expert biologists, biotechnologists, chemists, technicians and highly qualified personnel.
